Palais Garnier
Today I had the privilege of visiting Palais Garnier, an opera house in Paris. It was beautiful. The exterior and interior were spectacular. One of the first things I noticed was the scale of the building. It was huge compared to me. I wish I could have seen what it looked like without the scaffolding on it. I understand it is there to protect it, but it would have been cool to see it. The interior of the building gave me baroque vibes. It was ornate, grand, and highly decorative. There were many different colors used throughout the interior of the building. Different rooms seemed to have different color pallets. It made it so you wanted to go in all the rooms because you didn’t know what you were about to walk into. My favorite room was the one that had amazing paintings covering the ceilings and the royal chandeliers everywhere. I will attach a photo of this room!
In addition to this being a stunning building, it is historically and culturally important. Napoleon ordered the construction of a new opera house as a part of his “lets reconstruct Paris” campaign. The architect that worked on this amazing building ended up inventing the architectural style of the Second Empire through this building. Because of that, Palais Garnier is a symbol of the opulence of the second empire. This opera house is up there with the likes of the Notre Dame cathedral and the Louvre.
Palais Garnier is an architectural icon, a center for performing arts, and is connected to modern media. The building itself is beautiful and attracts people because of that. The beautiful displays of art that are performed here are enticing. People come to be blown away by performances. Furthermore, the popular movie and book The Phantom of the Opera is based on Palais Garnier. Because of these three reasons, many people come from all over the world to see this building.
